Document Restoration

A two-page document restoration for Cornell University.

The document was restored using Adobe Illustrator.

Process

The document had not been revised since 2004. The original document was split up in a mix of Dreamweaver and Adobe Illustrator files, with several files having been rendered unusable. There were no master file that held all document assets which required a near complete restoration from the ground up using a few workable files and a copy of the physical file as a reference.

The text was the main priority and most of it had to be retyped. The fonts used had to be changed as they were no longer available and Cornell staff were consulted to update information as needed. For greater readability the colors and text were altered, with light text on dark background and dark text on light backgrounds. Additionally, key text was bolded, long paragraphs were broken up with bullet points, and text boxes were resized so it was clearer were sentences began and ended. To future-proof the document so Cornell staff could update it personally, file content were grouped (text in on group, arrows in one group, etc.), and layers were clearly labeled. The document redesign contains everything into one organized master Adobe Illustrator file.
